Abstract:
Objective
To analyze the clinical characteristics of gastrointestinal bleeding abdominal complications after cardiovascular surgery.
Methods
The clinical data of 1735 consecutive cases undergoing cardiovascular surgery from Jan.2003 to Dec.2007 were retrospectively reviewed. The risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic methods and prognosis of gastrointestinal bleeding were summarized.
Results
The incidence of gastrointestinal bleeding was 0.75%(13 patients).Among them the bleeding of 7 patients were controlled undergoing medicine treatment,2 patients underwent with fiberoptic gastroscope,1 patients accepted celiac arteriogram and another accepted surgical interventions, while 2 patients died from violently bleeding.
Conclusions
Gastrointestinal bleeding following cardiovascular surgery were uncommon but had a high mortality. Time of CPB,mechanical ventilation and low cardiac outlet syndrome may be the clinical risk factors of gastrointestinal bleeding.Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential for the outcome of the patients.
