Abstract:

Objective

To explore the effects and feasibility of the Lichtenstein's tension-free repair of strangulated inguinal hernia in primary hospitals.

Methods

The strangulated inguinal hernia cases were randomly divided into treatment group (Lichtenstein's tension-free repair with Gore-Tex patches) and control group (conventional surgery) from May 2007 to December 2009. The operation time, the days of stay and the relapse rate were compared with both groups.

Results

The average operation time, the average length of stay and the relapse rate were obviously diminished in the treatment group (12 cases) than the control group (11 cases), with no increase of local infection rate.

Conclusions

Based on strict surgical treatment, Lichtenstein's tension-free repair of strangulated inguinal hernia is better than conventional surgery. With low price, the tension-free repair with patch is easily to handle and fitted to widely carried out in primary hospitals.
