Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the expression and clinicalpathological significance of c-jun protein and VEGF-C in tissues of colorectal carcinoma.

Methods

Expression of c-jun protein and VEGF-C were detected in 78 tissue samples of colorectal carcinoma and corresponding normal mucosa with immunohistochemistry and their correlation with clinicalpathological feature were retrospectively analyzed.

Results

The expression of both c-jun protein and VEGF-C in tissues of colorectal carcinoma was higher than that in normal mucosa, P<0.05. The expression of VEGF-C was related to the tumor size, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and Duke′s stage, P<0.05. The expression of c-jun protein was related to degree of differentiation, P<0.05, but not with other clinicalpathological parameters. The expression of c-jun protein and VEGF-C in the group of well-differentiated carcinoma and moderately differentiated carcinoma were correlated, P<0.05. Univariate analysis indicated that factors affecting overall survival were tumor size, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and VEGF-C expression status in neoplastic tissues.

Conclusions

C-jun may play an important role in colorectal carcinogenesis. VEGF-C expression in colorectal carcinoma affects the prognosis of patients with colorectal carcinoma after tumor resection.Combined analysis of c-jun protein and VEGF-C can provide valuable evidence for diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma, and guidance toward the optimal clinical treatment.
