Abstract:

Objective

To detect the amplification proportion of the Her-2 gene, explore the association of the Her-2 gene amplification with the clinical and pathological meaning and the prognosis in gastric cancer.

Methods

Sixty-two cases of gastric cancer were detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH), analyzed the correlation of the Her-2 gene amplification and clinicopathologic parameters and the prognosis in gastric cancer.

Results

The amplification of Her-2 gene existed in 10 cases (16.1%) while 52 cases had no Her-2 gene amplification (83.9%). Her-2 gene amplification was associated with histologic T grade, regional lymph node and stage, and distant metastasis (P < 0.05). No association was found with sex, age, site of tumor, vessel infiltrating and CEA > 5 μg/L. By Kaplan-Meier analysis, the survival time was shorter in the patients with positive Her-2 amplification than in those with negative Her-2 amplification.

Conclusion

The amplification of Her-2 gene is significantly related with the clinical and pathological characters and overall 5-year survival rate in gastric cancer.
