Recent development in nipple-areola sparing mastectomy for early-stage breast cancer

Abstract:

Nipple-areola complex sparing modified radical mastectomy has been one of the most common operations for patients with early-stage breast cancer in the world. Recently, patients with early-stage breast cancer pay more attention to postoperative implications, postoperative adjuvant therapy, retention of postoperative secondary sex characteristic, aesthetics, the normal function of the nipple and areola and so on, as their living standard has been improved. Therefore, we summarize the recent development in nipple-areola sparing mastectomy for early-stage breast cancer, especially in the aspects of the necessity, treatment effect, precautions, and affecting factors, to provide clinic reference for the treatment of early-stage breast cancer.
