Abstract:

Objective

To compare the different types of patch in tension free hernia repair and its application in short-term curative effect and prognosis of elderly inguinal hernia.

Methods

The clinical data of elderly patients with inguinal hernia admitted to our hospital from May 2014 to May 2015 were retrospective analyzed. They were divided into heavy quality flat piece of plain group (50 cases) and light quality group (50 cases). Postoperative follow-up lasted for 6 months, and the groups were compared with clinical therapeutic effects, placement time, ambulation time, VAS score and postoperative adverse reactions.

Results

There was no statistically significant difference in the total treatment efficiency between light latter patch group and heavy latter patch group (94.0% vs 90.0%, χ2=0.136, P=0.712). Difference between the two groups in the patch placement time was no statistically significant; but for the light quality flat piece group, ambulation time and VAS score was significantly lower than the other group, with statistically significance differences (t=9.561, 11.214, both P<0.01). After 6 months of follow-up, foreign body discomfort and incidence of chronic pain of light quality plain film group patients were statistically significant lower than that in the heavy group ( χ2=9.000, 3.895, P=0.003, 0.048).

Conclusion

Light quality patches are better than heavy latter patch flat pieces in the tension-free hernioplastry, effectively reduce postoperative foreign body discomfort, and alleviate postoperative chronic pains with high safety.
