Abstract:

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver cancer in clinic. The occurrence and development of HCC is usually related to chronic inflammation and liver damage. Platelets play a key role in the regeneration after liver injury. In recent years, more and more attentions have been paid to the role of platelets in promoting the occurrence and metastasis of HCC. Several specific growth factors and angiogenic factors secreted by platelets promote the progression of HCC by inducing tumor nourishing angiogenesis. In addition, platelet related derivatives can directly affect the proliferation and metastasis of HCC tumor cells. A detailed understanding of the role of platelets in HCC is necessary to optimize the treatment of tumors and explore new treatment strategies. This review will report the potential mechanisms and recent progress of the role of platelets in occurrence and metastasis of HCC in detail.
