Abstract:

Pancreaticoduodenectomy has become the standard surgical procedure for benign and malignant diseases such as tumors of the pancreatic head and periampullary tumors. It is one of the most complex operations in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery because of its wide range of resection and difficult anastomosis. Since the periampullary tumor often compresses the biliary tract and causes obstructive jaundice, it can lead to liver dysfunction, abnormal coagulation function, bacterial translocation and secondary cholangitis, which increases the risk of postoperative complications. In recent years, there are controversies about the method of preoperative biliary drainage for patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy. This article reviews the effect of different biliary drainage methods on postoperative complications after pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Key words: Pancreaticoduodenectomy, Preoperative biliary drainage, Postoperative complications
