Abstract:

Objective

To compared the difference of Livin mRNA expression among colorectal adenocarcinoma, colorectal adenoma and normal mucosa, to further investigate the potential role of Livin in carcinogenesis.

Methods

The expressions of Livin mRNA were determined by real-time RT-PCR in tissues of 12 colorectal normal mucosa, 36 colorectal adenomas and 64 colorectal carcinomas. Date were evaluated by relative expression software tool (REST-XL?).

Results

The expression of Livin mRNA elevated in turn by colorectal normal mucosa, adenoma and adenocarcinoma. The expression of Livin mRNA in colorectal carcinomas was significantly higher than that in adenomas, as well as significantly higher than that in normal mucosa (P= 0.001), while the diffence between adenoma and normal mucosa was not significant (P=0.19).

Conclusions

The difference in expression of Livin between adenoma and adenocarcinoma indicates that Livin might play an important role in carcinogenesis of colorectal cancer.
