Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the curative effect of FOLFOX combined with radiotherapy for locally advanced colorectal cancer (T3, T4) and postoperative tumor recurrence and survival rate.

Methods

Clinical data of 125 cases with locally advanced colorectal cancer (T3, T4) in our hospital from June 2008 to May 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into control group (traditional surgery, 61 cases) and treatment group (radiotherapy+chemotherapy FOLFOX scheme before surgery, 64 cases). The colorectal cancer resection rate, anal anastomosis rate, postoperative complications, tumor recurrence after 3 years, survival rate, and correlation between postoperative recurrence rate were observed.

Results

There were 28 and 45 cases undergoing complete tumor resection in control group and treatment group respectively, with statistical difference between the two groups (P<0.01). Low rectal anastomosis in control group and treatment group were 9 and 19, with significant difference (P=0.04). There was no obvious difference between the two groups in postoperative complications, total accumulative postoperative recurrence, survival rate in 3 years.

Conclusion

FOLFOX chemotherapy combined with radiation therapy can improve tumor resection rate, and anal preservation rate, reduce recurrence rate and increase survival rate in patients with locally advanced colorectal cancer.
