Abstract:
Objective
To investigate the clinical significance of fascin,nm23 and C-erbB-2 expression in the carcinogenesis, development and metastasis of gastric carcinoma, providing a new way for clinical diagnosis, treatment and judging prognosis.
Methods
The expression of fascin in 76 tissues of gastric carcinoma, their own normal gastric tissues in contrast, and the lymph nodes involved by gastric carcinoma in 53 cases were detected with immunohistochemical stain. The expression of nm23 and C-erbB-2 in the tissues of gastric carcinoma were also detected. The data from the experiment were analyzed statistically.
Results
There was no expression of fascin in normal gastric tissues. In the 76 gastric carcinoma, fascin proteins were positive in 24 cases (31.6%),nm23 in 39 cases (51.3%),C-erbB-2 in 35 cases (46.1%).The expression of fascin protein correlated with pathological style (WHO classification and Lauren's typing), TNM staging, serosal invasion, lymphatic metastasis, distant metastasis, the expression of nm23 and C-erbB-2,and so on.It didn't correlate with age, gender, cancer embolus in vessel and so on.In the cases with metastasis, the expressions of fascin in primary masses and their metastatic lymph nodes were correlative.
Conclusions
the expression offascin usually correlates with the occurrence, development and metastasis of gastric carcinoma. The expression of fascin in gastric carcinoma and its metastasis are continuous. In the gastric carcinoma, the expression of fascin is positively correlative with the expression of C-erbB-2,but negatively correlative with the expression of nm23.The expression of the three genes can help to assess the invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma.Fascin may be a new therapeutic targetof gatric carcinoma.
