Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effect of jiangzhuoshengqing particles on rat model of postoperative fatigue fatigue (POFS) and to study the mechanism of it.

Methods

Twenty-four male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were screened using grasping test. The rats were randomly divided into control group (0.85% Nacl solution), model group (0.85% Nacl solution), and TCM group (2.0 ml/100 g jiangzhuoshengqing particles). Then the following data were compared of the general state of health, learning and memory reproducibility, physical endurance, immune function, neutritional indicators and serum MDA, SOD.

Results

(1) There was no obvious fatigue in the control group, while fatigue in the model group was more severe than that in the TCM group. (2) Compared with the control group, the weight of POFS group and TCM group was less on postoperative day 1-7, while the rectal temperature was lower on day 2, day 4. The maximum gripping force was smaller on 1, 3, 5 d, with significantly more extend totally average escape latency, significantly less number of platform crossing, higher level of inflammation cytokines, lower nutrition levels, lower serum SOD and higher serum MDA was (all P<0.05). (3) Compared with the model group, the weight of TCM group gained on postoperative day 1-7, while the rectal temperature increased on day 2 and 4, the maximum gripping force was enhanced on day 1, 3, 5. The total average escape latency was shorten, the number of platform crossing added, the level of inflammation cytokines increased, the nutrition levels improved, the serum SOD increased and the serum MDA decreased (all P<0.05).

Conclusions

Jiangzhuoshengqing particles has an significant effect on rat model of POFS. The mechanism of anti-postoperative fatigue maybe involve promoting the recovery of bowel function, improving nutrition, interrupting vicious circle of metabolic, enhancing immunity, blocking lipid peroxidation and protecting cells and enzymes from oxidative stress damage.
