Investigation into treatment of hepatic trauma with liver cirrhosis

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the treatment of hepatic trauma with liver cirrhosis.

Methods

Twenty-four cases of patients with liver cirrhosis which undergoing hepatic trauma from January 1995 to January 2010 were studied retrospectively. There were 18 cases with operative treatment, while 6 cases with conservative treatment.

Results

Twenty-two cases were cured, while 2 cases died. Six cases with conservative treatment were cured, including one case occurred biliary fistula and was cured by catheter drainage through ultrasonic guidance. Among 18 cases under operation, 16 cases were cured (one case occurred hemobiliaand was cured through conservative hemostasis, one case occurred biliary fistula and was cured through sufficient drainage). Two cases died of hemorrhagic shock and postoperative liver function failure respectively.

Conclusion

Effective treatment should be immediately performed when it comes to hepatic trauma with cirrhosis. Careful handling, attentive management of associated injury, active protection of hepatic function are the key to improve cure rate.
