Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the laparoscopic procedure for the treatment of hydrocele in children.

Methods

From August 2004 to December 2008,172 children aged from 6 months to 12 years(the mean age were 4 years)were treated by laparoscopic procedure for hydroceles.Seventy-one cases were diagnosed as type of communicating preoperatively,while 101 cases as non-communicating.

Results

All patient were comformed intraoperatively as type of communicating,the procedure was successful in all cases with small scar formation and no recurrence.

Conclusions

Preoperative diagnosis of non-communicating hydrocele is always confirmed to be communicating. Ligation of the the internal ring under minilaparoscope is a simple, efficacy and reliable procedure with minimal invasion for the treatment of all kinds of hydrocele in children. Ocult hernia can be found at the same time.
