Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of DC-CIK/CIK combined with chemotherapy in advanced gastric cancer in China.

Methods

Data were collected from domestic and abroad published RCTs of DC-CIK/CIK in combination with chemotherapy (trial group) comparing chemotherapy (control group) for advanced gastric cancer, through the retrieval of CNKI, WanFang, VIP, CBM, PubMed, EMbase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library databases and Clinical Trials from inception to January 2017. The quality was evaluated by two researchers independently. Meta-analysis was performed with RevMan 5.3 software.

Results

A total of twenty one RCTs involving 1 764 gastric cancer patients were included in the study. Compared to the control group, the trial group significantly improved the 1-year survival rate (P=0.003), the overall response rate (P <0.000 01), the disease control rate (P<0.000 01) and the functional status (P=0.01) , and reduced the incidence of adverse reactions. Secondly, the level of lymphocyte subsets (CD3+, CD4+, CD4+/CD8+, CD3+CD56+, P <0.05) and NK cells (P=0.02), which reflected immune function were significantly increased.

Conclusions

DC-CIK/CIK combined with chemotherapy is a safe and effective method for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer. It can improve the long-term survival rate, immune function and functional status of patients with advanced gastric cancer.
