Abstract:
Objective To compare the advantages and disadvantages for vacuum assisted biopsy technique and the traditional open biopsy technology to further clarify the feasibility of clinical applica-tion.
Methods A retrospective investigation was made for 94 breast cancer patients who were confirmed by pathological examination at Hainan Armed Police Corps Hospital from January 2008 to June 2012. The patients were divided into two groups, vacuum assisted biopsy group (observation group) and traditional open surgical biopsy group (control group). Operation time, length of incision, intraoperative bleeding vol-ume, patients satisfaction rate and postoperative patients treated with breast conserving rate, and 3-year local recurrence and distant metastasis rate comparison were compared.
Results Operative time, incision length, and blood loss of the observation group were significantly less than that of the control group (P<0.05). After the surgery, the satisfaction rate of the observation group was 98.8% and the control group was 84.5%, the observation group was significantly better than the control group. The patients with breast con-serving surgery in the observation group were significantly more than those in the control group (30.2% vs 12.2%, χ2=4.314, P<0.05). Patients were followed up for 3 years after surgery, and the 3-year local recur-rence rate and distant metastasis rate were not statistically different.
Conclusions Vacuum assisted breast biopsy guided by ultrasound and mammography has the advantages of minimally invasive and short-er time. The 3-year local recurrence rate and distant metastasis rate are not statistically different com-pared with the traditional open surgical biopsy, but it still needs time for further clarification.
